Leap 2017
The Leap Dance Festival celebrates 25 years this year with an incredible line up of performances exploring the theme of Camouflage – Seen and Unseen. Each performance challenges the notion of individual and collective identity in the city of Liverpool. [Make Liverpool – Till 12th March 2017]
MCM Liverpool Comic Con
Calling all fans of comics, video games, sci-fi, movies, anime and cosplay as MCM Comic Con is coming to Liverpool to celebrate all things pop culture! Flash Gordon and other special guests will be there to sign merchandise and chat with the fans. A highlight is always the Cosplay Masquerade where fans go all out with their amazing costumes. North: Identity, Photography, Fashion
This co-curated show explores the way the North of England is portrayed, constructed and celebrated in a key selection of photographs, artworks and fashion collections. This dynamic and celebratory show takes into account the rich cultural history of the region. [Open Eye Gallery – Till 19th March 2017]
Tracey Emin and William Blake in Focus
This rather surprising ‘double-bill’ exhibition features works by Tracey Emin and William Blake. It reveals unexpected links between the two artists; exploring their recurring themes of spirituality, birth and death. Tracey Emin’s ‘My Bed’ 1998, one of Britain’s most renowned artworks of the past 20 years will be at the heart of the display, in the north for the first time. The British poet and artist William Blake will have his spirituals works displayed alongside. [Tate Liverpool – Till 3rd September 2017]
14 Hour Super Weird Happening
Following on from six previous Happenings, the most recent of which was a magical day at Festival No.6, DJ Greg Wilson’s label, Super Weird Substance are hosting their most intriguing event to date. This all-day festival will take over the stunning Grade II listed The Florrie, for 14 hours on April Fool’s day [11am-1am]. The Happening hopes to evoke the spirit of ’67 and its fabled ‘summer of love’ through live music, DJs, exhibitions, live art, spoken word, panel discussions and performance – where better than in Liverpool with its historically fertile ground for counterculture.
