Our world-famous Liver Birds have been lit up in blue in a first of its kind event with celebrity guests and a spectacular firework display above the River Mersey.
The iconic statues were lit up for Evertons ‘Blue Crimbo’ during a surprise display on Thursday evening and are set to remain for the next month.
Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright and X Factor finalist Anthony Russell launched the event at the Royal Liver Building. Other famous guests included first-team stars Yerry Mina and Michael Keane, Director of Football Marcel Brands and former WBC cruiserweight boxing champion Tony Bellew who joined 350 supporters and guests. Russell sang ‘Eye of the Tiger’ and ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ drumming up plenty of support from his home crowd ahead of the weekends final.
“It [lighting up the Liver Birds] has been a terribly hard secret to keep – we’ve been so excited here at Everton waiting to be able to do that.’
Blue Crimbo takes place every December and aims to reward fans with memorable experiences and surprises.
